1. He set the NBA Single-Season 3-Point Record, Beating Out Himself
During the 2012-13 season, Steph surpassed Ray Allen‘s 2005-06 record of 269 baskets, scoring 272 baskets. What’s more incredible is that during the 2014-2015 season, he broke his own record, scoring 273 baskets on April 9, 2015, playing against the Portland Trail Blazers. Steph is said to be one of the best shooters of all time.
2. His Real Name Isn’t Stephen!
Nor is it Steph. Actually, his full name is Wardell Stephen Curry II. He was named after his father, Wardell “Dell” Curry, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Virginia Tech, before being drafted to the NBA by the Utah Jazz. He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets.
3. His dream of going to Virginia Tech was crushed after they only offered him a place as a walk-on player.
Steph had planned on following in his father’s footsteps by playing basketball at Virginia Tech, but he received scholarships from Davidson, VCU and Winthrop. He eventually decided on Davidson, and helped them win their first conference championship game in 38 years.
4. He is married to his high school sweetheart.
So cute! Steph met his wife Ayesha Alexander in church when he was just 15 years old. They married in July 2011 in Charlotte North Carolina. Together, they have a daughter named Riley, who they welcomed on July 19, 2012. Riley has been known to cheer on her dad on at his games, and it’s so adorable!
5. He was named the 2015 Most Valuable Player
In between his incredible shooting record and consistency, Steph was named the 2015 NBA Most Valuable Player, which is a huge honor. He is also a two-time NBA All-Star.
